CTV applauds Governor Snyder for appointing Judge David Viviano to the Michigan Supreme Court. He is a rule of law judge who will serve the people of Michigan well. Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette commented on the appointment:
“David Viviano is an outstanding selection to serve on Michigan Supreme Court. I applaud Governor Snyder’s decision. David Viviano has a sterling record as a lawyer and rule of law Judge in Macomb County.
I have known Judge Viviano and his family for many years. Judge Viviano is smart, with the utmost integrity and character, and there is no doubt he will serve with distinction. He understands the law, brings an even temperament and will serve the people of Michigan with the highest standards of excellence.”
Michigan Supreme Court Justice Stephen Markman also weighed in on Judge Viviano’s appointment:
“The Governor has made an outstanding appointment to the Michigan Supreme Court this afternoon in his selection of Macomb County Chief Judge David Viviano. Judge, now Justice, Viviano is an articulate and principled ‘rule of law’ jurist and will contribute significantly, in my opinion, in maintaining the Supreme Court as a responsible judicial body, respecting the separation of powers and deciding cases on the basis of what the law “is” rather than what it “ought” to be. I am proud to have taught Justice Viviano (along with his brother Joe, also a respected attorney) in my constitutional law course at Hillsdale College nearly twenty years ago. Despite having undergone that experience in my classroom, Justice Viviano somehow decided that he wanted to continue with his legal education. Justice Viviano’s sister, Kathy, also sits on the circuit court in Macomb, and his father, Tony Viviano, is a former chief judge of that same court. All in all, a remarkable family and remarkable jurists.”
